Yoga teacher and breathing coach, and a former professional basketball player, Philippines
Joshua David Webb is a Filipino yoga teacher and breathing coach, and a former professional basketball player.[1][2] He was born on 14 November 1989 and played as a guard at 188cm.[2]
Joshua came up through De La Salle Zobel and joined the De La Salle University Green Archers in 2008, and in 2013 he was the first Green Archer taken in the PBA draft.[3][4] The professional career that followed was brief. He then came to yoga, mindfulness and breathwork, and it redirected his life.[1]
He trained as a yoga teacher in Dharamsala, in the Indian Himalayas, and holds two breathing certifications: the Oxygen Advantage, taken under Peter Lakatos, and Dana Santa's Breathe Better programme, built on Postural Restoration Institute principles.[1] He teaches a hybrid of Vinyasa, Yin and breathing protocols, for stress regulation and for performance.[1]
Joshua joined the Green Archers in 2008 from De La Salle Zobel, and his rookie year ended with the team as finalists. The LaSallian credited him with hustle and with giving the side timely scoring lifts.[4] Franz Pumaren was his coach at DLSU until 2009.[3]
In the 2013 PBA draft he was selected by the Air 21 Express in the third round, first pick, twenty-first overall, and was the first Green Archer taken that year.[3] The draft reunited him with Pumaren, who was by then Air 21's head coach, and put him on a roster alongside Mac Cardona, Joseph Yeo and Ren-Ren Ritualo.[3]
The playing record after that is thin. He has one recorded appearance in the Philippine league, for Mahindra against the San Miguel Beermen on 11 December 2016: three minutes, no points.[2] Mahindra Floodbuster was later renamed Columbian Dyip and then Terrafirma Dyip, which is the name his bios carry.[2]
Joshua did his yoga teacher training in Dharamsala, in the Himalayan foothills.[1]
The Oxygen Advantage is Patrick McKeown's method, grounded in the biochemical effects of breathing, and Joshua took his certification in it under Peter Lakatos.[1] He also completed Dana Santa's Breathe Better programme, which applies Postural Restoration Institute thinking, using breathing mechanics to change movement and posture.[1]
Joshua teaches a hybrid practice: Vinyasa and Yin yoga combined with breathing protocols for managing stress and for peak performance.[1]
In October 2022 he led a masterclass called Stress Relief Hacks at the National Mental Health Summit in the Philippines, run by Mind You Mental Health Systems with the Department of Health. The session covered breath control for stress and anxiety and for mental clarity.[1]
He is listed on Shawtout, a Philippine personalised-video platform, under fitness personalities, as a yoga instructor and former professional basketball player.[5]
