The stay, in short

The Kundalini Yoga Retreat is a 5-day, 4-night stay in the hills above Hang Dong, Chiang Mai, Thailand, taught by Todd Peyton. All levels are welcome. Dates are coming soon, with up to 16 guests each. From US$1,350 per person in a shared twin room.

Updated

Kundalini Yoga works where the body and the mind meet. Move the spine, change the breath, hold a sound, and the mind does something different. Watch the mind closely enough and the body tells you what it has been carrying. You arrive during the day and meet the group that evening. Then three full days, each opening with sadhana before dawn: the late morning teaches the day's idea, the afternoon practises it, and the evenings are yours. On the last morning, one more sadhana, a closing session and lunch before you are driven back.

The point is attention: to what your mind does, to what your body holds, and to the gap between a reaction and a response.
  • Your room. A shared teak room with two single beds, your own bathroom and a balcony on the garden. A double room to yourself is an upgrade.
  • The group. Up to sixteen on each date. Same gender to a room unless you book together.
  • The days. One theme a day. Taught in the morning, practised in the afternoon, so every idea is something you have felt by dinner.
  • Sadhana. Two hours every morning, starting thirty minutes before the sun comes up.
  • Evenings. Free. Rest, read, talk, or go to bed early.
  • Food. Vegetarian, cooked on site, three meals a day. Dietary needs catered for with notice.
  • Getting there. Met at Chiang Mai airport and driven up the Samoeng road, about forty-five minutes. Both transfers are included.
  • Afterwards. A simple daily practice of your own, built on the last morning, small enough to keep.

Who it is forUp to sixteen on each date.

All levels are welcome. Nothing here is a test of flexibility or stamina.

Who it is for

  • You are new to Kundalini Yoga and want it taught from the ground up
  • You already practise and want to understand what the practice is actually doing
  • You want language for what your mind does under pressure, and a way to respond rather than react
  • You want a daily practice and have never managed to keep one
  • You are curious about the chakras and want them taught plainly

Who it is not for

  • You want to sleep past five. Sadhana is the spine of each day
  • You want a strenuous workout or a physical challenge. This one is built for depth, not achievement
  • You want therapy or a diagnosis. The chakras are taught as a contemplative framework, not a clinical one

An invitation, not an obligation

Every practice here can be adapted to your body.

  • Rest, modify or step out of any practice at any time
  • Sharing in the group is always optional
  • Chant aloud, or repeat the mantra silently. Both are the practice

What is taught each dayTaught in the morning. Felt by dinner.

Each full day opens with sadhana before dawn. The late morning teaches the day's idea. The afternoon practises it: kriya, breath, meditation, a guided exercise, then reflection and discussion. By dinner, the idea is something you have felt.

Day One

The Three Minds

How each mind shapes what you perceive, feel, decide and do. Then the three gunas.
  1. 5:00

    Morning sadhana

Tuning-in mantra, gentle spinal warm-ups, an introductory kriya, breath awareness, meditation and relaxation.

  2. 9:00

    The Three Minds

The Negative or Protective, Positive or Projective, and Neutral Minds, and how they show up in an ordinary day.

  3. 10:15

    The three gunas

Tamas, inertia and stability; rajas, activity and desire; sattva, clarity and harmony.

  4. 16:00

    Exercise and discussion

The Three Minds and the gunas applied to a real challenge, then journaling and optional sharing.

Day Two

The chakras

The seven-centre map of the subtle body, and the themes held in each.
  1. 8:00

    The chakra system

The seven centres as a traditional map of the subtle body.

  2. 9:00

    Chakras one to three

Safety and grounding, emotion and desire, agency, will and personal power.

  3. 10:15

    Chakras four to seven

Compassion, communication, insight and spiritual awareness.

  4. 15:15

    Guided meditation

Body awareness rising from the base of the spine to the crown.

Day Three

Integration

The three frameworks brought together, and a practice of your own.
  1. 9:00

    From reaction to response

Habitual reactions, emotional patterns, and answering a moment with awareness instead of habit.

  2. 11:15

    Your own sadhana

A daily practice you can keep, sized to your real life.

  3. 16:45

    Closing circle

Relaxation, a closing meditation and voluntary sharing.

Last day

Send-off

One more sadhana together, then home.
  1. 5:00

    Morning sadhana

    The last one together.

  2. 8:30

    Closing session

Your practice at home, final questions, and the send-off.

  3. 13:00

    Departure

Driven back to Chiang Mai airport.

Then, habit. On the last morning you build a simple sadhana of your own with Todd: movement, breath, meditation and relaxation, small enough to keep going after you leave.
