Jason Ryer

Breathwork, ice bath and nervous-system coach, Chiang Mai, Thailand

Jason Ryer is the founder of Zen Strength, a breathwork, ice bath and nervous-system coaching practice in Chiang Mai, Thailand.[1] He has guided more than 2,000 people through breathwork and cold exposure, and has been working from Chiang Mai for more than five years.[1][2]

He came to it from more than fifteen years in technology, including as a software engineer at IBM, followed by his own startup and consulting ventures.[1][3] That career ended in a health crisis: chest pains and a racing heart that doctors could not fully explain. Looking for answers, he went into fasting, nutrition and biohacking, and eventually trained with Wim Hof.[3][4]

He is a certified Bulletproof and Human Potential Coach, trained through Dave Asprey's Bulletproof coaching programme, and his work pairs old breath and cold practices with the nervous-system science that explains them.[1][4] He coaches one to one, runs group ice bath and breathwork events, and teaches sleep masterclasses.[1]

Tech career and the health crisis

Jason spent fifteen-plus years "in the tech trenches," building systems for clients including IBM before founding his own ventures.[1][3] He also served in the Peace Corps in Bolivia.[5]

The end of that career came in two parts at once. His body was sending signals he could not ignore, chest pains and a racing heart with no clear diagnosis, while a consulting business was quietly failing as his attention drifted to side projects.[3] The turning point was a podcast question, "When is it time to throw in the towel?" He walked away from the venture soon after.[3] The breathwork, cold exposure and biohacking he used to recover became the foundation of Zen Strength.[1][3]

Wim Hof and Bulletproof training

Jason trained with Wim Hof, whom he met at the Bulletproof Biohacking Conference. Hof's energy and the science behind his method pulled Jason further into cold therapy.[4]

He then trained as a Bulletproof Coach, a certification built on the work of Dave Asprey and the Bulletproof coaching team that draws on neuroscience, performance coaching, nutrition science and resilience training.[5] As part of his own training and recovery he also spent a week at the 40 Years of Zen neurofeedback programme in Kent, Washington.[4]

Zen Strength

Zen Strength is Jason's Chiang Mai practice. It offers breathwork, ice bath and cold therapy sessions, sleep-focused coaching, and nervous-system work in groups and one to one.[1] In more than five years it has guided more than 2,000 people.[1][2] He also hosts Biohacking Social, a recurring meetup for the Chiang Mai biohacking community.[6]

His workshop, Zen Strength Foundations, draws on several methods side by side: Holotropic breathwork, the Wim Hof Method, Buteyko, the Oxygen Advantage method and coherence breathing.[7]
