Dr Lorraine Levy, PhD

Depth psychologist and educator, faculty at Sofia University

Lorraine May Levy holds a PhD in Jungian and Archetypal Psychology from Pacifica Graduate Institute, awarded in 2020, and teaches as adjunct faculty in the Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology programme at Sofia University.[1] Her teaching focus is trauma survivors, approached through Jungian and archetypal theory.[1]

She came to all of it the hard way. She returned to formal education at thirty, as a single mother of five, and worked her way from an associate degree at West Valley College to a doctorate.[1] Her dissertation brought together the image of the goddess Persephone, underworld trauma, and the practice of providing clothing to victims of sexual assault.[1]

Outside the university she works as a depth psychologist, educator, integrative wellness guide, and retreat and therapeutic process facilitator.[2] Her clients come to her with addiction recovery, anxiety and other life transitions, and she works with them through art, dreams and storytelling.[2] She is based between Thailand and Italy and works with clients worldwide.[2]

Education

Lorraine started with an AA at West Valley College. From there she took a BS in Psychology and Biblical Studies at William Jessup University, an MA in Teaching and Learning at Santa Clara University, and a PhD in Jungian and Archetypal Psychology at Pacifica Graduate Institute, awarded in 2020.[1] She also holds an MBTI Master Certification.[1][2]

She went back to education at thirty as a single mother of five children, and that shapes how she teaches. She sets out to build a community of risk takers who follow their dreams while staying true to who they are on the inside.[1]

Research and teaching

Her doctoral dissertation examined "the image of the Goddess Persephone, Underworld trauma, and providing clothing for victims of sexual assault."[1] Her research specialism is qualitative research in the humanities.[1]

At Sofia University she teaches trauma survivors in the MA Counseling Psychology programme, using Jungian and archetypal theory.[1] Her academic interests are identity transformation through trauma recovery, and career pathways, where she draws on Myers-Briggs assessment.[1]

Practice

Lorraine works as a depth psychologist and educator, and as an integrative wellness guide and retreat and therapeutic process facilitator.[2] The work addresses "addiction recovery, anxiety, and other life transitions" through "art, dreams, and storytelling."[2]

She offers retreat and rehabilitation programme work, consulting and curriculum design, and facilitation and instruction in Jungian psychology.[2] The values she works by are trust, compassion, hope, creativity and connection.[2] She is based between Thailand and Italy, with clients globally.[2]
