Participants connect with their ancestors through Kauyumari’s transformation into the Sacred Medicine cactus, Hikuri, and seek messages and healing from the spirit of the medicine during an all-night ceremony with music and songs. The Wixarika aim to preserve balance between humans and nature through their ancestral practices and view the medicine as a teacher and guide to both individual and collective healing.
